my race...

I ran the Utah Valley Half Marathon this last Saturday. It was awesome! I kind of got burnt out from training for it and was saying that it will be my last half marathon. But after actually being there bright and early, running that beautiful course, feeling the adrenaline rush, and crossing that finish line feeling strong, convinced me otherwise. There will probably be many more half marathons to come. But for now… Herriman Black Ridge Triathlon here we come! The race is at the end of July and Scott is doing it with me, along with some friends of ours. I’m super excited to do a race with Scott. Well, mostly I’m excited to kick that cute little bum of his on race day. That’s if I can survive the swim…

"Last day of preschool EVER!"

Today was the last day of Benjamin's preschool. He kept telling me all excited, "Mom, today is my last day of preschool EVER". He loved preschool, but he is SO exited for kindergarten. In fact, he keeps complaining of having to have a summer break. Silly boy! It's been fun to think back to two years ago when he was just starting preschool. How much he's grown, how much he's learned. I can't believe I'm going to have a kindergartner. My baby is reading, starting to write, doing additions and subtraction and all sorts of things. What? What happened to my helpless baby boy that needed me all the time. Sheesh, at this rate he'll be driving and moving out before I know it.

During their preschool program Ben was asked what he wants to be when he grows up. This kid cracks me up. He said, "I want to be an alien and an electrical engineer like my daddy. He is not an alien, just an electrical engineer. But I want to be an alien electrical engineer." I bet you could be whatever you set your mind on, kiddo! We're so proud of you!

*A little clarification - he sometimes confuses astronauts with aliens. He really meant to say he wants to be an astronaut electrical engineer.

mother's day

Mother's day was a hard day for me this year. Another post, another day...maybe...
But my sweet boys tried so hard to make it really special for me. And they did. Thank you! Ben gave me a questionnaire that he answered about me in his preschool. It makes me laugh every time I read it.

What is your mother’s name?
Diana Hardy

How old is she?
I don’t know, I think she’s 40.

What is her job?
She always goes to the store, do laundry. She makes us food.

What is her favorite food?
Lettuce

What does she do when you are at preschool?
She goes to store, library, gym.

What makes your mom happy?
When I behave and listen to her.

What is your mom’s favorite thing to do?
Have fun and play with us.

Why do you love your mom?
Because she is cute.

I made sure he knows that I’m 28 and not 40 (you know, in case somebody else asks). I let the lettuce thing go :o)

So just for fun, I asked Andrew all the same questions, and this is what he said…

What is your mother’s name?
Mommy

How old is she?

What is her job?
Cleaning dishes

What is her favorite food?
Orange

What does she do when Ben is at preschool?

How did I ever get so lucky?

So Scott leaves for work really early - when we are all still asleep. Within just moments of me waking up I began finding little notes like these all over the house, expressing his love for me.

I just love that man. What a treasure! I think I will be keeping him forever.

Merry Christmas

Provo Tabernacle was destroyed by fire this last Saturday. Breaks my heart. This painting of the Second Coming was recovered - all burned, except for the exact outline of Christ. What a glorious reminder to keep Christ the center of our lives, especially this Christmas season.

Merry Christmas!

Conversation

The boys and I went to the cemetery yesterday. This is their conversation on our way back.

Benjamin: "Baby Chloe died."
Andrew: "No, she's alive."
Benjamin: "No, her spirit is alive, but her body died. But you don't have to worry. Her spirit can talk down to us. One day her body will be alive too."
Andrew: "Oh, ok."

Amazing. I didn't know a 4-year-old can have such an understanding. Oh, how grateful I am for my little angels...on both sides of the veil.

Chloe Renee Hardy

Last night marked two weeks since we lost our baby girl. On Tuesday, November 30th, the night before I was supposed to be induced, I realized that I haven't felt the baby move since the night before. I was hoping that she was just sleeping or that I was busy getting things done before her arrival that I just hadn't noticed it. I was just at the Doctor's on Monday and she was perfectly fine. Something felt terribly wrong, through. So I called the doctor and he had me go to the hospital. When we arrived, they were unable to find her heartbeat and an ultrasound revealed that our baby's heart had in fact stopped beating. I delivered her that night and she had the umbilical cord wrapped tightly around her neck. She was absolutely perfect and beautiful. We miss her more than words can ever describe. We are so grateful for the Gospel and our Father's plan of happiness. We know that we haven't really lost our little girl. She'll be ours forever. I can't wait for the day to see my perfect little angel again. Thank you for all your prayers, phone calls, letters, and gifts. We've been amazed at how blessed we are with the most wonderful family and friends in the world. We feel your love and prayers and it has given us great comfort and strength. We love you all.
